Will Donald Trump succeed in helping the Venezuelan people become prosperous again?

President Donald Trump says the U.S. is helping Venezuela rebuild its economy and that Venezuelans can become prosperous again. His administration has backed a major expansion of private investment in Venezuela’s oil sector, including plans for up to $100 billion in new oil infrastructure investment and increased production. The strategy is centered on oil-led economic recovery, with the Trump administration arguing that higher production, investment and government revenues can help rebuild Venezuela’s economy. However, significant challenges remain, including Venezuela’s deteriorated infrastructure and a power deficit of more than 1,500 MW, which is already affecting economic activity and oil-sector expansion.
